When the new is just as bad as the old...

Illegal guns a focus for new Police Assn president | Radio New Zealand News
The new guy looks to be making a big splash: without looking at the evidence (thought he was a detective?!?) - the easy target is those who abide by the law...

I want an "assault style " rifle. Where do I get one? Is any rifle assault style if you assault someone with it? Or do you need a fancy salmon shirt to be in assault style?

I want a police force who operate within their mandate: this shouldn't be too hard. If they did this, I imagine there wouldn't be the great need to persecute law abiding people.
Think of it like this: there is nothing in current legislation which prohibits someone from owning a Ferrari (leaving aside the wanker factor - it is still legal). The owner is very capable of breaking the law (as is everyone owning a Corolla....) - cars are registered and just as capable of killing people. Firearms licence holders ARE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD, yet are still persecuted because there are people who chose to operate outside the law. (There are also people who choose to drive without a valid drivers license - and are arguably more visible than those who use firearms without a license....).
There is nothing stopping the police targeting those who drive without a license, or those who have illegal firearms - it seems that one gets better headlines (from our biased media....) than others, so one garners more attention than the other.

Here we go again. Another ill-informed idiot with a bandwagon ready for him to jump on. And another stupid opinion. O'Connor and Crusher Collins reckon legitimate firearms owners are not a target in their newest firearms enquiry - yeah right. It seems to me that the colletive aim is to get rid of firearms altogether. Good luck with that. Soon enough, we will all have to go to the gangs to get licences and firearms, because they will be the only ones who have them. Why don't Collins & Co talk to Canada to find out what happened to their efforts at firearms registration? Is it too simple for them? Gods, all they have to do is look at what has happened in the UK and Oz since their respective clampdowns on gun ownership. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall reading that shootings and firearms offences have increased in both countries. As for Canada; they spent untold millions (or was it some billions) on gun registration and that had no impact on crime at all and cost so much that in the end the scheme was abandoned. It seems that we can feel a little smug about our own "more enlightened" attitude to gun ownership and decrease in gun-related crime, but how long will it last with dickhead dweebs like this new PA prsident squawking crap at the media, who will never let the facts get in the way of a dramatic headline? And the police membership voted this cnut in, as they did O'Connor. Did they expect something different. Nope, they want more of the same, it seems. Some fuckwit bleating on their behalf about the budget. Wish they would find someone capable of slightly more research and creative thinking instead of jumping into a ready made attitude.

This is why Everyone needs to get involved with a organisation like Colfo or the NSA.

I have no time for or good opinion of politicians as a species but we shooters should be checking out those that are running in the election next year for their position on law abiding firearms owners
and support those that are positive towards us no matter which party they are from, All other issues are of no consequence if we end up with a government bent on taking our guns,
We are not Americans who will with out a doubt start a war with their government over firearm restrictions they are already talking about it on shooting forums right now so watch out for ammo and component
    shortages in the near future,
If Clinton wins and tries to pass anti gun laws it could be all on in the new year,
It pisses me off that the NZ public and government think that we are anything like Americans, Our shooting culture is completely different to theirs to compare us to them is an insult sure we have some total dipsticks
but the large majority are very good honest law abiding citizens that deserve more respect than they give us.

Unfortunately the media seem to lap up whatever they say, and do their best to make the general public and politicians think the same way.
