Thread: A whim...

I didn't need another rifle because I have 4....223, 243, 6.5x55 & 7-08.

But I've had this increasing interest in the 7mmSAUM. It seems an efficient calibre and well suited to a shorter barrel in a light rifle. So I was on the look out for something to convert, and a 270wsm was on the top of my list, because they seem to suit a straight barrel swap to SAUM without any other fiddling.

A couple of weeks ago I happened upon a Stainless A7 in 270wsm. 80 shots through it and 2 years old. $1,200, so I grabbed it. First step completed.

I took it to the range today with a 3-15 Zeiss on it and tried it out with Federal factory ammo. No suppressor, but the recoil was pretty manageable. Sighting in was a breeze with 6 shots to be dead on and zero confirmed. Then a four shot group of one 130 grain and three 150 grain (Fusion). Then a hit on the 400 yard gong.

It shoots so well with factory ammo, I'm now feeling like it can stay as a 270wsm and I will have some fun with it before the new barrel goes on. It might be quite a while.
