Yep, someone has done an a-grade job of screwing that around. That cocking pin should definitely be straight, and I don't think it should be sticking that far out either.

I'm picking not everything is right with that aftermarket trigger either, not enough sear engagement maybe..

Bubba has done a job on that bolt, probably someone not knowing how to disassemble one but getting there in the end.
The trigger sounds as though its not adjusted correctly both things that someone competent should be able to sort quickly.

It was done by a reputable gunsmith in Hamilton and was told it was a prick of a job getting the new spring in which doesnt surprise me now when I look at it. Problem is if I go back to a factory spring I might have the old misfire issue back. Sundays stag is my fault but I dont want to miss out on another

@matto1234, as StrikerNZ said, there is something seriously wrong with the cocking piece pin. It should not be at that angle...

see here for what it should look like

any gunsmith worth dealing with will function test the rifle once sorting it
they may just shorten the spring in it at the moment

If the cocking pin was like that before the spring was changed that could be the answer right there. Replacement if the keway isnt buggered could be the solution.

What it sounds like is that the original problem wasn't diagnosed properly and the "answer" was a bubba spring. The 5mm lift seems a bit tight, but it probably does have a half-cock stalking position.

Many things ARE a prick of a job, working on boomstix shouldn't be if you do it right. (Except woodwork. Fuck woodwork)

If you have the original to compare to you can measure wire diameter and spring free-length, and number of turns, and get an idea of what needs doing to the new spring but An OEM replacement should be the order, and if that doesn't work, something else needs attention.

Sounds like it really needs a front-to-back with someone competent, and their time could be worth more than the rifle's worth.

As above from striker and ebf that bolt aint right and the firing on closing (slamfire) and firing after pulling trigger with safety on then releasing safety is classic insufficient sear engagement....if it is a decent aftermarket trigger that will just be a adjustment.

Oh deary me. A particular design 'feature' of Savage rifles is they are put together with multiple stamped and forged pieces ..... hence lots of potential places for shit to happen. IMO.
