I's guess folk liked that you could get Lapua brass for it and that it was new and sexy.
Now that you can get 260 Lapua brass and get a bit more performance out of a similar cartridge and it comes in many factory rifles, there is less appeal for it.
I have no idea what the popularity is like in the US but you have 4 cartridges that do more or less the same thing (6.5x55, 260Rem, 6.5x47, 6.5 Creedmore), I can see one or more dying off and it's likely to be the ones with the least factory backing.
