Why My Deer Cartridge is Better than Yours

Now on this Friday night (after a few beers), I just want to tell you all that my favourite NZ deer cartridge is so vastly superior to yours that I will preach its virtues at the top of my lungs at the local gun shop and on this forum.

You will hear how its ballistics are better, how it 'shoots like a laser, recoils like a pussy cat and if you buy it in type 'X' rifle then the trigger 'breaks like glass'.

I will download photos or get out my phone and show you the latest stag I shot with it..... show you the targets that have tiny little groups on them.... reiterate the stories of my hunting and shooting exploits for the umpteenth time (usually with the distances increasing with each telling), and you will have to read or hear my testimony whether you want to or not.

And I will quickly and effectively prove to you why your cartridge is a waste of time (Hah...it was since its very inception!) ... and why mine makes so much more sense.

It doesn’t matter to me whether you've taken animals with your cartridge from around the world.... you’ve obviously just been lucky this whole time, as everyone knows your cartridge is inferior and my cartridge choice is simply superior.

Yes, I will defend my chosen cartridge like a religious zealot... wild-eyed, and nearly rabid in my keyboard defense of it. Because....well.... if you don't know by now, my cartridge is simply better than yours....

Sounds like your tanks are fully stocked for this pissing contest

Maybe we can invent a "Bunji" award, and give it to the person who spins the most highly unlikely exploits

Oh and just for the record.... my rifle is considerably better than your rifle

Pfft. I bet I could throw a rock harder than your deer cartridge.

My cartridge is better than yours because I have bullets and powder for it.

I think you stole a script of one of the PMs speeches and adjust it for caliber choice instead of policy

Admin, can we make this a sticky that auto-links to any posts that ask for advice on the best rifle/cartridge for X and/or Y, possibly Z.

Obviously .233 and/or .270 and are the answer these people are looking for, but it will save everyone a lot of time and effort waxing lyrical about all the other sub-standard calibre options out there...

(someone had to bloody well say it...)

Its an easy answer...the best calibre / cartridge choice is and always be the one your rifle is chambered in....getting a different cartridge is about as much use, as @Sasquatch states...like throwing a rock at it.... In my case that is 303....if I had 300 win mag it would be no use as I dont have a rifle to use it in.....Nor do I have anything that throws rocks with any effectiveness.....

    Greetings all,
This is a most interesting thread. I see that it has reached the stage where the actual existence of a rifle and calibre choice is no longer required so I share what might be an imaginary rifle. The rifle is small weighing no more than 1kg and is linked to your personal communication and information device. You set up the rifle on its folding legs and go hunting for deer on your device. This is equiped with an enhanced GPS unit that allows you to virtually swoop through the likely spots in your hunting area. This is a bit like a drone but without all the noise. Once an acceptable deer is spotted you align the cross hairs of your device on a vital spot and press the big red button that is marked launch. At this point your rifle launches a projectile which then accelerates up to 3,000 metres per second. The projectile is equipped with a propulsion system based on the Hyper Improbability Drive described by Douglas Adams in his four part work some years ago. Your projectile is guided to your selected spot on the deer by its internal tracking system so further input from you is not required. Sound a little far fetched? Maybe but you never know.
    Regards Grandpamac.
