    Dear @Hermitage,

I regret to inform you that your deer cartridge of choice is not better than mine. However in this day and age of mis/disinformation it is easy to understand how you reached such a conclusion. For your convenience in transitioning to the best deer cartridge I recommend reviewing the seven stages of grief:

    1. Shock, and denial
    2. Pain, and guilt
    3. Anger, and bargaining
    4. Depression, reflection, and loneliness
    5. The upward turn
    6. Reconstruction, and working through
    7. Acceptance, and hope

If you require assistance in this difficult time I am here to help (If you believe you have received this message in error and we do indeed shoot the same cartridge please disregard this message).

    Regards,
    Magnetite

I believe we have all been decieved..the title SHOULD have read "my dear cartridge" so it could still be taken one of too ways.
my dear cartridge as it one you hold in high reguard,it is dear to your heart, you have feelings of joy when it is mentioned...like the mighty .270 win

OR my dear cartridge as it it hurts your wallet to even think about buying more rounds for it $6-7-8 per round...like the 6.5 creampuff

As an aside, Douglas Adams' 42 as the answer to the ultimate question - what is the meaning of life? The sum of the dots on a dice is 21. The meaning of life is... 2 die!

This is quite the opposite to my belief. Without getting all philosophical I believe the meaning of life is to survive. No matter what happens to most people they try get out of the situation alive. I still understand that we all eventually die somehow too.

Hah... it's one of those arguments I can't lose....as long as my cartridge and rifle remain anonymous.

But I'm happy you all saw the humour in it.

PS. @RUMPY I think your 'meaning to life is to survive' is also called the 'will to live'.

PPS. My favorite deer cartridge is still better than yours

The 7.62x54 Russian is a good deer calibre. Not quite as impressive as the mortar a few posts back, but still... I stumbled upon the world of 'obrez' pistols - a hiatus in sanity brought about by a shortage of pistols and a surplus of Mosin-Nagant rifles. https://www.range365.com/gun-history...-bolt-actions/

Anyway, why the Russian - what about the old 303? Well some nutter already went there... A classic for deer, especially when they are 3 feet in front of you, and you don't want to wake the neighbourhood.

Th front of the projectile must be very close to sticking past the end of the barrel when that that thing is loaded! The police dog squad brought out a dog for training a month or two back, they dumped a bag of cash, a bag of drugs, and a sawn off double barrel shottie on the farm for the dog to find. I thought that sawn off shotgun had the shortest barrel I'd ever seen, but your monstrosity might win the contest.
