    Win M70 scope set up

    Got a 3 -10 weaver gs on this 243 M70 feeatherweight.
As you can see the objective bell is hard up against the rings and I need more eye relief to get a good sight picture.

The rings are fine could be lighter. What I would like to know from you gentleman is: 1. What kind of ring base set up are they? 2. Can they be reversed so the back one is at the front which will give me more room to slide the scope forward enough. To me, it looks like the back one should be on the front?

dont know bud but thats just plain ugly way for them to be mounted...but unless you are dislectic....you can slide scope miles forwards but cant slide it back anymore

The short loopy M8 on my m70 243 suffers the same but only just. Never did anything about it but got a different scope to go on soon so that way fix it
Pretty standard design, Redfield/Burris and others. Possibly leupold in your case
For a start the rear base with the side adjustment screws is in the right place ie the rear. That is there to get the scope pretty close before you start using the scope adjustments.
I would suggest it looks it should be reversed so the 2 side screws are at the rear.
    You have several options
You can get rings that have an offset bottom for just the purpose you require.
Or you get a completely different ring and base set

What would be better functional ring base option. Happy to change them out. Was thinking Talley or weaver bases. Open to suggestions team. Great wee gun. 243 is growing on me.

Is that where you want it for sight picture?
I would prolly turn the rear ring around the other way, then if nothing else the lock screws will be on the same side.

Comes down to price and strength.
There are better designs out there now.
See if you can find an offset ring set and see what they are worth.
Talley are certainly worth a look
Otherwise you could co Pic or weaver style one piece but I'm not really afan on something like that.
If it was a one piece maybe a Burris with zee rings

Or a generic M70 one piece base with slots and standard pic rings...

Hi, to answer your questions - 1. The ring base set is called the leupold standard rings and bases. They are a reliable set up as the front ring has a dovetail that rotates into a recess that provides a rock solid attachment point. On a 24flea they are just fine. No, you cannot reverse the front to rear because the receiver at the front is much higher than the rear and they are specifically designed to be installed the way they are. However, I recall that Leupold make an extended front base that you could reverse so it faces toward your face giving you exactly what you need. It will impinge on the loading port but that's life. Here's the link. Cheers -https://www.leupold.com/std-winchester-70-rvf-r-2-pc-gloss

Look more like Millet rings than Leupold. Can’t move the back base to the front as noted earlier - different heights. You would be able to reverse the front one and back one (I.e. remove the 2 screws and turn each base 180 degrees) - depending on the where the holes are drilled in the receiver and base that may give you a few more mm to move the scope.

It looks like theres plenty of room to move the scope forward for more eye relief with set up you have pictured, like about 40mm. The Weaver GS was designed with plenty of lee way for mounting on long actions.

Ive had a set like these on my 308 Mod 70. Millets. Worked great for hunting, but I swapped them out with a pic rail once I started using the gun for presision shooting.

Now are we all talking the same lingo here? You need more eye relief (i.e. scope forwards) which it looks like will work with your setup - or less eye relief (scope moving rearwards) which won't work on your setup?
