    Winchester Model 100 in 308

Just working my way through some rifles that Napier gun shops want repaired and one gun bag held this

Its a Winchester 100 semi auto -and in 308

I have not seen one of these for years, be a lethal wee machine.

Has anyone here seen or used one , what did you think of them

Nice wee rifle and light too !!

It had a bent transverse pin that secures the bolt to the slide.

Just made a new one from stainless and it's working perfectly.

I get to shoot it tomorrow

I owned one in 243 years ago. Was a nice handling rifle but had a worn barrel so I sold it. The guy I sold it to tried some hot hand loads in it and blew it up, split the receiver from memory and luckily didn't hurt himself. I know another guy who has a 308 that he bought new, used it to secure a few trophies and won't sell it and it sits retired in his collection. If I came across a minter in 284 at the right price I would buy it.

I recently bought one in 284. Pretty mint. Awsome rifle to shoot and quite light for a semi. Still working out a load for it but it goes ok with winchester superX factory. Check that the firing pin has been upgraded might save your sight or life.

Was my dream rifle when in my teens. Peter Harker used one in .308 when on the coast.
Mate had one but it was either inaccurate or we just couldn't shoot back then.😆

I would still buy one for nostalgia sake I reckon.

Shot a few deer with the carbine version of that one in BC years ago. It had a shitty trigger from memory.

One was on tardme a while back for $400, threaded also.... The thing that put me right off was the pack of Barnaul ammunition next to it as one never knows how much it's had of that crap .

Had the carbine version (barrel band, shorter barrel) about 30 years ago. Shot quite a few deer with it back then. Trigger was crap and the butt stock sloped downward and thus had little cheek support. Accuracy was so so. Good little bush rifle though. Heard that Winchester stopped making them because they were too expensive to manufacture.

There was a problem with these, something to do with someone getting badly injured. I think it involved the firing pin breaking so that when the next round was picked up from the magazine it fired. Check this before firing please.

Exactly right. There was a recall on them (free firing pin upgrade)
