    Yeah, those were actual assault rifles.
    No they are battle rifles like most of the historical pieces that criminally went through the crusher such as M1's, SLRs etc. I doubt many if any real assault rifles went through the crusher except maybe some semi converted AKMs, M16's and STGs (gulp!).
