    Xmas came early

    From the Deep South!

I ordered my Marlin 336 SS back in October from Willsoutfitters as a bush carbine for down here as most of my hunting is sub 50 paces.

What better rifle than a 30-30 for such a task. Plenty of oomph out to 200 once she's scoped and handles like a lever gun should(lovely).

I'll leave it unscoped and then scope it once it's got a trigger job as it's quite heavy.

A big big thank you to Will and his team for getting it in, I love it and only wish I'd bought it sooner.Name: IMG_3855.jpg

Very nice, mate! Yep a practical rifle for all sorts of situations.

I have a little Marlin .357 carbine with a Leupold VX2 1-4x20 in Weaver super low rings and of course a hammer extension. Absolute honey of a gun. Have often thought a 336 like yours would be a great companion with maybe a 2-7 x 33 scope.

    What are you thinking scope-wise?

Had an early model Marlin .44 Mag years back. Shot my first deer and my first stoat with that gun. To this day I regret selling it but I was younger and sillier back then.
If you a shooting close range, look at a nice set of ghost sights. Very fast target acquisition, light weight and no bulk, and you don't have to contend with all the lens issues when its raining.

Zeroed at 100y it's trajectory with the fusion/lever evolution means it's only 1" out at 200 on the black powder drop values. At that range I'll call that close enough:-). I wouldn't be shooting a huge stag at 220 but at 170 I would.

    Good Choice
When we were buying our first house I sold every rifle I owned to help make the deposit.
Once that was done and we were in I looked about for a cheap do all, bought a Marlin 30 30 and shot everything from rabbits hares pig wallby etc until I could once again afford a decent bolt action
Still have a hankering for another marlin 30 30.

jakewire that's what I did when I got married, sold my Sako 222 and 243 then picked up a Winchester 94 30 30 great rifle for ranges it was designed for, put deer down real good.
Often thought of a lever gun in 44 Mag some day.

I had a play with a Marlin lever in a gun shop a few years back, forgot to do the "pull ya finger out" cowboy bit & farken destroyed the end of me finger.
