Howa?
howa not in my budget
hence the to that i have listed
Sorry to once again point you in a different direction to what your thinking Skeet but if you have $600 then you'll have enough for this, and personally I'd choose it over the two you mention.
Hunting & Fishing
And the new Remington 783....
out of those two I would get the zastava M70
Get the Ruger, you can't go wrong

Attachment 5968
the mini Mauser type action seamed a lot nicer in its over all feel and apperance as ruger the american seamed lacking " plastic mag, mag not flush, protruding from bottom of rifle, bolt angle may interfear with scope"
i liked the zastava as it has in internal mag "drop floor" style and ajastable trigger
and a clean look to it "very top gun in the image"
barrel twist on ruger is 1:9
and the zesatva is a bit higher 1:10 from
Why not Mariln?
The faster 1:9 twist of the rugers will stabilise heavier pills than the zastava.
Have you held either of them? Go and see which fits best and which feels the nicest, also look at the Weatherby Vanguard as it is cheaper than both of those and I think you will find a much nicer rifle.
to many options not enough time lol
the diffrece is about 100 between them
i have trade in afew guns spare 10-22 and an old 303 and sum cash i did on a deal
i want the gun for occasional meat hunt but mainly as a target toy
Then if you want a target toy I would get neither the Ruger nor the Zavasta,
Apart from that I give up, get the Ruger, Peter Furly will at least look after you if it goes wrong.
I wouldn't go for the synthetic stock on the Zastava. They are nasty. The wooden stocks are much better.
That Weatherby Jakewire pointed out at H&F is a good deal. Better choice than the 2 you have highlighted anyway.
y not so good
Grouped like a shotgun with most ammo giving 4" at 100m. Robbie Tiffen put the rifle on a bench and showed me the flex, especially in the pistol grip. After suppressing the accuracy is fantastic though. I was only after something for pigs at about 30-50m so the original accuracy was fine.
The Zastava by a country mile, they are a true Mauser action with good forgings well made barrels and like all cheaper synthetic stocks they are flexible. If you bed them smear some bedding compound int the fore stock and that stiffens them up (or give em a Viagra pill).
A friend of mine has 4n zastavas and he is delighted with them 6.5x55,270,308,223. All shoot better than 1" at 100m.
Don't be put off by price. Mauser's have more in built safety features than any other rifle bar none.
The Zastava's action is only based on a Mauser and are called a mini mauser.
The main difference is that the mini mauser doesn't have a full length extractor and doesn't have the bolt face opened up for controlled-round feed. It is dual, front locking, push feed system. It still has a mauser type blade ejector and split left lug. It is essentially a Sako L46 clone, or so I am led to believe anyway.
Still in saying that, they are a good rifle.
I have 1 in 223 and am very happy with it. It groups great with my handloads, and kills everything I hit. :)
Sorry to correct you cambo, but that is true of their "mini mauser" action they use in the .223, but the full size actions as in the .243 etc. are in fact controlled feed copy of the mauser action. The only thing that puts me off is that the ones I have handled have had seriously sloppy bolts with heaps of play in them.
Oh OK cheers Spudattack. Good to know that.
They are a good rifle anyway.
7mm-08, Remington Model 700 | Trade Me
Here, buy this, know its a 7mm08 and not a .243 but what a bargain!
I know this is an old thread but I have handled both the American and the m70, I ended up buying the Zastava due to it feeling better in the hand and on a friends advise.
Out of the box it shot cast 200 grain hand loads at 1.5 - 1.75 moa. Shooting hand loaded 150grain spitzers it shot 0.5 - 0.75 moa.
Now I'm pretty new to shooting for accuracy but I was extremely impressed with what I got for 800 nzd with a scope.
good choice the ruger is are piece of plastic crap
glad I only paid $800 for my brand new rem 700 270 SPSS :)
