And set zero for 80s, back to handloads. Group strung a bit. Zero looks perfect but I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually 0.1 R accounting for the wind. We shall see. Sorted for roar hunting.

Forums can be the Wild West of marketing products and shitting on competitors.
Just back from the range (was RO this arvo and a horde of shooters turned up "after work" and it took ages to get them all sorted) where I was able to test a 223 that has caused me a bit of head scratching. It's weekend group was at least double it norm, and was 75mm off POI. The scope is a very reliable test rig so that was easily eliminated. Today's effort was back to its best and I made a big learning . ..The suppressor bushings lie about on the bench ready to fit and somehow I'd grabbed the wrong one. It looked like it had clearance but on testing had a tighter spot (it just wouldn't quite pass the corner of a $5 note) and that was enough.
I lay down in the paddock under field conditions using bipod and no back rest to check zero. 6 shots. Savage Lightweight ,223, Hardy 1:8 barrel, 62 grn Makers. Zeiss HD5 3-16 scope.
Last time I checked it a few months ago it was 1" high at 100 yards. It's been dialled quite a bit since and gets put into the back of the ute in an unfriendly manner and spends lots of time on a quad. A rough sort of life.
The black circle I drew was a bit big and I was aware of drifting to the bottom of it when shooting so I sort of called those shots. Anyway, it is what it is. I left it as it was.

Zeroed it off the bench doing 4x3 shot groups into a 12 round group, giving it a few minutes between strings as the barrel is pencil profile.

Adjust .3 mil up and .2 left I think
Fired 8 rounds in a single uninterrupted string to confirm 100m zero

Friend borrowed the rifle over the weekend for a new hunter to use. "One neck shot at 220m , 2 at 124m , and 1 Behind the shoulder at 20m"
Just using the hash marks in the reticle, not dialing.

It would of been knocked around on the quad I imagine so will need to recheck.

Everything torqued to recommended specs with Fix-it Sticks and the action screws torqued to 45in/lb as recommended by Howa to prevent the bottom plastic splitting
I was anxious when I bought a day/night scope that it might not hold zero. The cantilevered mount was a worry as was all the electronics inside of it.
The last time I checked this scope (sytong ht-70) was prior to a wallaby shoot 6 months ago. Fired 250 shots and since then a lot of deer hunting and banging around in vehicles and on quads. I would say 300 shots all up since the last zero when it was 1” high at 100. Today I fired 8 shots. The wayward one I called to Brian, but it’s still on there so on the record. 80 grn Targex.
Tikka T3. Carbon stock. DPT. Uncut barrel.

I don't have time to give an awesome full report like what I am seeing in other posts here, but I can report back on my real world findings. Using my rifles every day for work puts a fair amount of load on them, in and out of the safe twice a day, in and out of the car multiple times a day and they do about 100km on the road (and off road in some pretty bumpy places) around my trap run every day. It probably all adds up to a normal recreational hunters yearly use across a 2 week period. Back in the beginning I was using some pretty budget to mid level gear, Hawke, Leapers, Simmons, Tac Vector, Nikko etc and was often having issues with the zero wandering around a bit as the rifles got bumped or fell over in the car etc.. I ended up buying a Burris scope and a Leupold scope and some decent quality rings to go with them and the issues stopped immediately. Rifles that used to zero fine at the range and then miss animals on the next outing were transformed into rifles that hit every animal and haven't been adjusted since. After this revelation I sold all of my cheaper scopes and picked up a bunch of Leupold, Burris and Minox scopes and possibly just as importantly started using quality mounts every time. It also helps knowing that these brands all have no questions asked warranties, even when purchased second hand, but I am now starting to hear some stories about the new Leupold NZ agent not playing nice.
It seems I have some data of a sort be it non conforming with the OP.

Fed with beef fat and whatever, they come out of the forestry and get fat. Iv got a table I shoot from so its consistently 100 yds and the aim point is the ear, base , just under or just behind depending on the position of the target. Rifle is a Shultz and Larsen legacy, S&L rings holding a vortex HDLH 3-15. Its been on a few wallaby trips down south, a few trips to the batch in the sounds. Success from this shooting position has been 100% and the last shot was pinpoint on the POA at the base of the ear so Im happy the set up has maintained zero for some years.

Thats as close to collecting data as I get, even now I feel a little dirty.
Put a different scope on and the brass is once fired now so wanted to see how that shoots…

The cut-rifled match barrel clearly gives the expected results !
At 430m you'd have to be using a tremendously wrong BC value to see any difference in drop - it's substantially more likely a variable input issue in the app or scope tracking error.
I've used Applied Ballistics and 4DOF default values for the 108 out to well past 800m with no issues
Slightly*off topic but my mate said his bil missed a huge Raukumara stag yesterday because he dialled up his scope [ swaro]the wrong way. Next year he said. LOL.
Quick pre roar trip check shot around 2 weeks ago tomorrow I always like to check before a trip but I also dropped the rifle directly on its head trying to weigh it with luggage scales I think it bounced from can to scope so would have some what broke the fall also wanted to double down on the velocity as iv now fitted a cds accuracy is more than good enough for my intended use and it had an sd of 14.5 across the 10 shots which is also good enough for my max range of 400 yards . Note the only shot I’m certain of is #3 I know #1 and 2# were far right and together the rest is just marking impacts in no confirmed order for the purpose of marking the shots I also see now iv finished mucking with the app one shot is out of place as theirs a hole just behind the aim point

Why? My sons VX3I has Leupold rings. But it appears it is not zeroed. Resighting this morning. Might have to get MD rings ... electrical tape. Gotta say that has worked on my scope of same model. My mate runs Burris and he is on a farm. He says he never resights his gun. His last Burris before it fogged went over 20 years without resighting.
This is an interesting thread .
I’ve used Leupold scopes on and off for about 35 years .
I can’t say that I’ve ever noticed any wandering zero issues with them .
One observation that I have in regards to the current move to larger group samples is the variable that gets introduced when overlaying multiple groups . When you break position between each group to reload your magazine/ let the barrel cool down etc your position/ setup / shooting form has more chance of introducing a zero shift than your Leupold .
I did a test a while ago where I stood up / lifted the rifle up off the ground between each shot , then had to reset myself all over again .
That 10 shot group was noticeably larger .
Scope mounts / bases have actually caused me more grief over the years than any of my scopes ( Zeiss/Meopta/Leupold/Swaro) if I’m honest .
Just did a rezero check after a new slightly bigger suppresser fitted. After these five 308 shots at a hundy, thru my day scope and thermal clip on.2 clks right all good.

Regarding Leupold scopes. I’ve got 2x M8 4power scopes x never had any zero issues with either. One is currently not fitted to rifle which is my current night hunting one. The other is fitted to M70 Win with Leupold rigs/bases for 40+ years. Only time I’ve rezeroed is when I’ve occasionally changed ammo brands/loads.

4th 10 shot group with this load and getting a consistent mean radius so happy to run with it. Adjusted .2 down and fired 5. I felt it might still be a smidge low, so, came up one click and called it a day due to running low on the ammo I will need tomorrow.
I will fire another 10 shot group when I get back to the range to check if it moves at all. My expectation is the vertical should be no more than a click off up or down, and I think it will be obvious if there is any left or right movement.

Dunno how the 3rd target ended up in the post - it's a different load. Nothing to do with my original post. Can't figure out how to delete it.
