@199p I'm interested in your comment about insurance. Would that be house contents insurance? I would expect that's an option if you drop it off a cliff or something, but what if you had the issue Harryg had with rotating crosshairs, or wandering zero etc. You'd have as much luck dealing with ziess wouldn't you?

Chances are that most scope damage will be from some sort of accident, an slip and fall or dropped would be most common and might not be apparent at the time being internal.
Yes house contents covers sporting goods from all the insurance companies i have dealt with and I have had no issues even when some Kia got into my tent and trashed a heap of gear.
