Thread: Ziess Warranty

Hi All,
I'm interested to hear if anyone has made a warranty claim for a ziess riflescope recently. If so, how did it go? Do they cover accidental damage?
I'm pretty set on getting a conquest v4. They seem to tick a lot of boxes for me. However just in the last couple of days, I noticed an issue with one of my vortex scopes. Not a manufacturers issue, but when I contacted vortex they were super responsive and still keen to get the issue sorted. Its early days and I'm yet to see the process through, but it makes me wonder if I should put more emphasis on a lifetime, no questions warranty like what vortex offers. I wonder if the likes of Ziess would sort the same type of issue and I suspect not. But I'm keen to hear any first hand experience.

While not a warranty issue, I did send a scope to Zeiss in Germany for a reticle change. It was extremely expensive, very involved and took about 6 months. Zeiss will not accept anything sent in without previous agreed and sign up to their terms. They charged a lot for the reticle change and will send only by their insurance/transport company (due apparently becauee NZ and Germany do not have a postal agreement). Would I do it again. No. And I sent a Zeiss to Zeiss USA for repair. They refused to accept it and it was lost in the post. so, Zeiss is nothing like Leupold which is why I tend toward Leupold scopes.

Zeiss scopes are superior to Vortex but the warranty isn't great. Spoke to a well known salesman in the industry and they no longer stock or sell Leica and Zeiss as they're so hard to deal with.

only good thing about vortex is you get to use the warranty

I had a Zeiss Terra. good wee scope until the cross hairs decided to rotate. I have had it a few years but not all that long maybe six years
Took it back to point of purchase and they got in contact with the NZ agent. Took about a month to get any reply and then NO out of warranty. (If it was out of warranty it was only just out) but we can do a deal on a new scope so I asked ok what's the deal, after a month still waiting for a reply
so in my opinion shit warranty wouldn't have another

I had a pair of zeiss diafun binoculars fog a few years ago and they really didn’t want to know about it. Wouldn’t buy Zeiss again out of principle. More user friendly options out there.

Have zeiss scopes. Rate them. Expect NO warranty help when you need it and you won't get disappointed

@199p I'm interested in your comment about insurance. Would that be house contents insurance? I would expect that's an option if you drop it off a cliff or something, but what if you had the issue Harryg had with rotating crosshairs, or wandering zero etc. You'd have as much luck dealing with ziess wouldn't you?

Chances are that most scope damage will be from some sort of accident, an slip and fall or dropped would be most common and might not be apparent at the time being internal.
Yes house contents covers sporting goods from all the insurance companies i have dealt with and I have had no issues even when some Kia got into my tent and trashed a heap of gear.

Great 'scopes. The chance of needing to test the warranty is far less likely than for most brands.
E.g. Leupold have a great warranty and your chance of needing to use it is very high.

Regardless of warranty, you are covered by the CGAct. The product must be fit for purpose.

It's whether the sgitfight to claim on cga is worth the cost! They tend to have you there as usually it will cost thousands in time effort and cost to prosecute a cga claim against a supplier that doesn't want to play, and in the case of something like zeiss the market here is so small they can afford not to care...

Illumination control plus battery literally feel off mine, never to be seen again. Not broken, but unscrewed it's self. Power ribbon hanging out the side. Sent it back to zeiss. Answer back was that model (victory) was discontinued. Unsure if they could repair it. Sent it back with the offer of a refurbished one for a discount price off 2k..... wait a minute, how can you refurbish something without parts? Why not just ask if I'd be happy with a factory refurbished one as a replacement since they are a discontinued line, with no direct or close replacement of features with their current line up?
Take from that what you will. Good product...certainly. Rate them .... certainly. Recommend them.... certainly. Back up/warranty... not worth the paper it's written on!
NZ agent and shop I bought from did all they could. If I'd been in the states where it's a big market to have a bad reputation in.... then I'm sure this would have been sorted.

This was 10 years ago but I have a Ziess HD5 that I bought in from the States and it got dust on the reticle. I packaged it up and posted it direct to the factory in Austria with a note included and sent a follow up email. A couple of months later it arrived back. Customs bounced me and wanted proof that it was a repair and not a new scope. Fortunately I had kept the email so they released it. It was refurbished and like new. Still got it. Beaut 'scope.
