    2011 - A Year Of Hunting

January - January was a bastard. Due to work and other commitments I spent little time in the hills and my venison supply ran dry due to Xmas and summer evening bbq's.
When i finally got out toward the end of the month, i didn't think twice about tipping over this hybrid stag with huge non typical antlers

February - February had me poking around semi open fringe country I had not explored properly. While one weekend i did manage to find animals, wasp nests in my lookout spot gave me a hard time and forced me out with my tail between my legs

March - March was another busy month for me and left me with little chance of escape. An early roar meant the stags were hard to locate and even harder to close the gap. After a few failed efforts i ended up shooting a spiker to top up the meat supply and put some weight back on the shoulders again

April - April was a good month for hunting with the timing of fine weather in sync with the weekends

May - In May I took some time off from work and went out on a decent trip. Things started off slow and finished even slower with a boned out hind and yearling In my pack

June - In June I was kept very busy with my new hunting mate, a GWP named SKY

July - During one very frosty morning in July, I was unlucky enough to pull up at a car park and find the number plate NIMROD glowing from my head lamp
Things soon looked up though when I tipped over a hind that was trying to catch some sun on a very small clearing

August, September, October - Busy months for me, I managed to get onto a few animals but never quite managed a connection
Late September and October saw me put down the rifle and pick up the fly rod for a change of pace for a while

November - In November i chucked away the fly rod and picked up the rifle again to make sure the Xmas venison supply would be topped up
The bald patches are where I grabbed x2 handfuls of hair to see if she was moulting

December - In December I went for a walk with forum member Mossie and we managed to get him his 1st deer with his new rifle. See his post under the 'Shooting' section. Also it was time for my GWP to earn her own bones by accompanying me into the hills
We still have a bit of work to do in that department...

The GWP came from Christchurch, she is coming along very nicely however she is a little sensitive so things have to be taken slow.

Amazing how well they cope In the bush aye, she often runs ahead of me and looks back thinking "why are you taking so long boss?"

In saying that I suppose she does have 4 wheel drive

Looks like you've had a good year.

I have one of the same breed. She has just turned 2, it was a long road training wise, but it all started to come together late last year and she helped tip over some of those HB deer.

Looking foward to the day where it all falls into place. Hopefully not too far away
