    3 from 3 for the .223

Not much of a hunting story really. Left home at 6:30pm last night. We walked half and hour from a road end on heavily hunted DOC land. The wind was perfect to stalk a clearing I go to from time to time. Poked my head around a bush at ten to nine and there were 5 deer feeding. I shot this hind broadside at 80yds. She copped it because she had the “something is not right “look and the “let’s get the hell outta here “ aura about her. She was the leader of the group.
Anyway sierra 69gn tmk at 2920 fps. Hit exactly where I aimed.

Rolled her over and the exit was impressive too. Absolutely dead on arrival. Sacked it.

We cut her up and performed an autopsy. The bullet had put nice holes through both lungs and split the heart into pieces. The exit wound was impressive.

I am fast becoming a big fan of the .223. Quiet , light and deadly. Interesting the hind was heavily pregnant and hadn’t dropped.oh well, We did our bit for conservation as there are too many deer around at present.
Home just after midnight with the meat in the fridge

Excellent hunt! That's what I'm seeing too, generally plenty of deer on DOC and heavily hunted areas. Enjoy the venison!

That's great. The lad is getting a wonderful intro to hunting.

We have been using the .223 a bit for the same reason, nice and quiet. Will have to give those projectiles a go.

He’s probably not too far away from shooting his first if I can get him lined up.

I’ve got the tmk in 77gn too but because I chopped the barrel to 16” for weight the 69gn go a lot faster with 2206h. The rifles unreal 3.2kg with bipod and 4 in the mag

I use the same bullet in my .223 with excellent results. With a suppressor you can clearly hear the 'wop' when it hits an animal. I use BM2 powder.

Looks like a high shot to have damaged the heart? The projectile must have gone in all directions?
