    It's a great cartridge, load them hot or go subsonic. Plenty of options these days, I've heard good things about the Bergara single shots.

    What red dot scope are you using? I have just been using the open sights on my 45/70, time for a upgrade.

    Nothing flash mate, just a Bushnell trophy 5moa red dot. Has held up well in the 4 years I have had it, over 100 45-70 loads through no issues at all.

    @mawzer308

    May seem a stupid question so some, but what sort of groups do you actually manage to get with a 5moa dot?

    I zero and group test at 50yds with the red dot, can still easily shoot an inch group at that range.

    It's just like any other shooting, maintaining the same point of aim every shot, trigger pull, hold of the rifle etc etc It's all about consistency.

    Thanks for the reply! So 2 MOA achievable with a 5 MOA dot. Makes sense it can produce smaller groups in practice.

    Is the walk in on private land till the doc block and hut, not that I`ll ever be able to get to the hut. Can you camp at the road end. Still looking to blood my Sharps, so road name, but if it`s your X spot you keep it,

    It's a legal right of way on foot going through and bordering private land. Follows the river for 12km to Trains hut in the Waitotara conservation area. Doc boundary is about 8kms in.

    Great story, that 45/70 certainly thumps those goats.

    Where did you leave your vehicle? Any concerns about security? Any friendly cockies that'll allow you to leave your truck by their place for a couple of nights?

    Nice.

    Spent a little time in there in the 1970's. No deer about there then.
