    6 weeks hunting

My wife took the kids overseas to see the grandparents,so i decided to grab the opportunity and go hunting down south for 6 weeks.
First up me and a couple of other mates headed into south westland, and managed to get a solid 8 days of fine weather! The area had just been culled heavily unfortunately so the few thar we did see were very cagey and wouldn’t come up out of the scrub until the last hour of light. There was nothing to be seen way up in the bluffs at all. Eventually we found a few and i managed to get a 12’ and a 13.5 ‘ bull with a beaut skin. I also managed to knock over a bull from 5oo yards with the 110grain ttsx out of a 7mm mag. Very happy with this setup , and thats by far my furtherest kill .

Next up i dropped the guys at the airport and headed up the Huxley river for a few days on my own . Its a very nice place . Saw a mob of thar up high but i was after deer at this stage.

After that i went and stayed with a mate in manapouri for a while, and we hunted various spots. The eire mountains where i managed to get a 9inch chamois buck.we brought the skin out but my mates dogs got hold of it and gave it a good chew. ;D
Also hunted lake teanau , lake manapouri , and another wee local spot too seeing plenty of deer.

Finally I headed in to the Narrows wap block with some other mates for the second period. We managed to have good weather for the whole ten days which is unheared of so we had a real good look around the block, but didn’t see any animals worth taking. Very nice block , easy to get around and nice open bush in the valley. We had some top fellas sharing the block with us and on the last night we met up at the lake and had a few beers and a fire which was a great way to top off a long trip.
I will add photos and a bit of video as I get time to edit it.

Great report. Sounds like a nice mission. Had the Narrows a couple of years back, saw a couple of really nice animals.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
