The 7mm Saums First Red and Sika (video)

A few months ago I had Abe build me a new 7mm Saum which was to be my lightweight go everywhere rifle so I had him suppress it and topped it off with a march 2.5-25x42 tactical, needless to say I was stoked with my new rifle but as these things happen I got it back a week before I was to have keyhole surgery to my right knee so only got a chance to shoot some of Neckshots gongs with it before the surgery.

Anyway a month after my surgery I figured that myself and the new rifle needed a test so my mate Nick and I headed off to the Ureweras in particular Mt Manuoha for the weekend which is the tallest point in the Ureweras, after a solid four hour slog straight up to Mt Manuoha we where at the hut and in much need of a cup of tea before the afternoon hunt, feeling replenished we headed off to hunt some nearby slips. Anyway I managed my first deer with the new rifle a Red hind ranged at 220m for a difficult offhand down hill shot which my mate Nick got on film and my mate nick also shot a good stag later on that evening which I didn't manage to get on film.

After recovering from this outing I managed to get some more time off work and Nick and I decided to head into clements rd where we fly camped for a few days where he managed a nice barren hind and I shot a young Sika spiker for some meat.

All in all some great hunting and am very happy with the new rifle Cheers Abe

    Good work.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Very cool. That slip looks like paradise for deer (and hunters )

Mind if I ask what time of the day that was? I've never hunted slips before so I'm curious as to how early at night and how late in the morning they'll be out on them. Cheers.

Hey mate it was shot at about 6:30-7:00 about a month ago so still an hour before dark, if you ever go up there mate all of the hunting is like that just follow all the ridges and there are a shitload of slips, saw plenty of deer on that trip more the next morning just on first light but already had full packs and didn't fancy carrying anymore veni

Ah yeah. I just had a look on the map, I can see what you mean, there's heaps of them! Do you hunt the slips at the change of light and just stalk the rest of the time? I'd be keen to try my luck in there but I can feel my pocket hurting already just talking about it, it's a long drive, petrol money $$$$$ Ha ha ha. Might have to wait till I get bit of pocket money. Is the carpark dodgy?
    Yeah nah bro
