    Afternoon drive

With the forests open to hunting for permit holders again we went for a drive this arvo.

The weather was pretty average, blowing, with mist/clouds up high, so was treating it as a recce mission.

Saw some goats on the way on the side of the main road so thought it mightn't be too bad

Things weren't looking that flash, then on the way back down there was a small mob of Billys on the road, naturally they gapped it

But being on the inside of a horse shoe bend we had a chance especially being down wind in a stiff breeze, I smelt them before we saw them in the trees.

I have decided to take a big bore with me each time we go this year to give them some use,

We decided to start with the smallest, who knew Billy Goats don't appreciate a 9.3 x 62 at 15-20 metres

I got a couple of big stinky boys, both dropped on the spot, good old 270 grainers

My partner shot a couple as well with the trusty 7.08

Thinking I might take the 375 H&H tomorrow

yeah common misconception there, even with a 50 BMG there would only be a 1/2 " hole in & out.

The bullets aren't built to expand on little things like Goats, the 7-08 & 120 BTs, well that's a different story

How have you found the 270's? I push them at just under 2300fps and on goats and deer they seem to expand very well, leaving some nasty exit wounds.

I have only shot those two with it, I can get it up just over 2400 but they aren't as nice to shoot for me or my partner & its her big bore to use
