    Another nelson bush stag!

Took some days off to chase stags so i decided to have a go at a place i normally dont do very well at.
Its a well hunted spot, but its not a easy spot, steep, thick and the animals are hard to find. Only shot 2 deer here and 2 pigs and thats it(few goats).

But in saying that, ive had plenty of deer and some good stags on the game cam there so always worth a shot in the roar.
Arrived to a perfect day, rained hard the night before, low cloud, no wind and just screamed roaring action is going to happen.

Straight from the start i could smell a deer in the walk in. It was still dark so i just carried on and 5 minutes later spooked a spiker a couple metres of the track It grunted just up the hill from me
and from its strong smell and how it was barking/grunting i was sure it be a spiker.

Soon as light came i was heading to the first wallow hole in the area, saw some deer marks but no stag marks. Mmmm... time to do a roar but no replys.

Headed off to the second wallow hole, that took a hour and again no fresh stag marks and no roaring as yet.

Was pretty high up now, gave a few roars and sill nothing. Oh well, i head to the 3rd wallow hole which is just down the ridge 15mins.
This was better, a stag had just used it and i could see its marks heading back down the ridge which isnt too bad to hunt so i tracked the marks to see if i could catch up with it.

After maybe 15mins, still following the marks i came to a more open area of trees then heard a thump! which is a telltail sign i just spooked a animal.
I was quite sure it be the stag, was quite sure it didnt smell me and didnt hear it go far so maybe just heard me coming.

I sneaked in and i heard a animal moving down below me. Couldnt see it, couldnt quite pinpoint the sound but somewhere close the animal was moving.

Its was steep as and i recken its just over the terrace so went down the 50m or so and gave out a couple of moans.

Still nothing, was i hearing things? then suddenly straight behind me just where i was standing i heard some twigs breaking.

Swung round and blow me over, here was a 8 pointer coming in and he was only 30 yards away in the trees. I wasnt sure where he had come from, he must of heard the roar and came up and circled me while i was looking out to the left.

He stopped when he saw me and i just rasied the 243 and put the crosshairs on the neck and Boom and he went staight down.

These were the trees he came in from.
Had another wee accident boning him out, another cut on the wrist, lucky not too bad and had some good badages to wrap it up.

On the walk out spooked a big pig in the fern and down a pretty steep bit had a fall with the loaded pack and tumbled around 40m down the hill.

Was very lucky not to get a bad injury and managed bit stiff and sore back at the 4x4 at 3pm.
