After crawling around in a ceiling cavity putting in batts and finishing earlier than expected I took the opportunity to duck out for a quick hunt. Left home at 12.30 at the road end a bit after 1 then into it.
I headed up the track for 5 mins then cut off up a ridge I’d hunted once before. I forgot how poxy the supplejack was for the first 150m, seemed to take an age to get through it. After that the bush opened up a bit and lots of fresh sign so was going super slow. Came up to a nice little terrace and something caught my eye. I was looking at the mid section of a deer about 20m away but no good shot, it moved after a minute or so behind a tree, a step to the side by me and I got snapped, she was head up looking straight at me so no mucking around gave her one in the chest and down she went, 2 more bolted then slowed to a trot, I got a quick shot away as it moved through a gap in the trees, hit but a bit far back. Followed up and dispatched her 40m away. 2 deer down soo close to the track, stoked!
Boned out back legs of the 2 took the back steaks and made my way out. Love it when it all goes smoothly, especially in the bush as there’s seldom second chances.
