    Anzac Day Sambar

Doing some work in the North Island, have the weekend off. Forum member Wildman jacked up a Sambar spot for today. Split up at dawn and stalked the block, spooked one without getting a look. Met up after a couple of hours, spooked another stalking together back to the truck, scared the shit out of us honking a couple of metres away. A short time after that I spotted one and after a bit of positively identifying my target I shot it. First sambar, neat. Left my tripod in Hoki like a chump so no film

Nice one. Their habit of sitting tight and giving you a deafening honk from a few meters has cost me a few pairs of good underpants.

    About 20 meters I'd say.
