    Armed Tramp

Wandered up the kaimais this morning for a bit of a sniff around a couple of spots that i have been watching. I was the only one in the area as the carpark was empty and the weather wasnt looking that good, but desided to venture out any way. Conditions under foot were very wet after the overnight rain but it made for quiet stalking. With the wind in my face I made my way toward an area well used by deer in the hope of catching one out in the open sunning its self. It wasnt to be. The deer were obviously smarter than me and had stayed under cover in some nice dry punga patch some where.
Well it wasnt a total waste as I enjoyed the walk and its always nice to get onto the bush with rifle in hand.
The deer will be fatter next time.

Same. My strike rate on deer is about 50%. Maybe a little better. I have found that you get more, if you go hunting more. But your strike rate stays about the same.
I tell myself that every day’s hunting adds a day to my life. My sons are horrified. They say that at the current rate I will live to be 150, and that they will never get their inheritance. Little do they know that it mainly exists of rifles, knives and a mortgage.

Call me superstitious but when i started out hunting I use to say to myself ill go for a walk and see what happens.......usually not much happened.then I started to change my mindset and say I'm going to kill a feezer filler end of story and I'd tell myself hunt like i mean it.my success lifted dramatically. I don't know what other people think but thats what i tell myself while I'm blowing up a steep shitty hill

Most of my tramping I carry a rifle, started with a bloody heavy 308, then single shot 7mm08, now just the AR15. If I don't see deer I usually see goats and it's always good to bomb up a mob and help DOC out

If I were you I would go back to the 7mm and give the stinkies a wide birth. That's prob the reason u don't see any deer.
