Thread: The Ballistic Bermuda Triangle Strikes Again

As some of you are well aware my regular goat shooting block has a bit of a reputation on making a lie of shooting skills and on Sunday it happened again.
This trip there were 3 of us - M, D and his dog and myself. It was more of a guided tour of current works with the potential of a goat thrown in.
It all started well we had barely gotten through the gate when 2 goats were spotted in a little gut about 75m away. We rolled passed in the wagon before disembarking and loading up only to find that there were 3 rifles and 2 bolts. We didn't think that was going to work, so M graciously stepped back and D and myself setup. D said to for me to shoot first as I have the suppressor so one shot and one was down. D fired, there was a pause then fired again. his goat had hit fifth gear by then so I told him to leave it as I knew we would see more.
With all the spraying on the block most of the goats have moved to the back of the forest, so we quickly drove through and parked up where the green started again. From here we realised the hound and went on foot. 5min later and we spotted a small mob out 300m away but we left them alone as we were going to have to loop back passed them anyway. So on we went. Pretty soon the dog was scenting hard and M spotted a goat ahead. As we watched another 7 materialized out of the cutover. Using the drain and bank of the track we narrowed the gap to 60m before setting up. D was to shoot first and the dog sat nicely next to him. Boom. 7 goats transformed into 20. A movement in the corner of my eye caught my attention as I was about to pull the trigger and the dog whipped passed in from of my barrel! Boom, D fired a second shot.
I lined up again and . . .the dog ran back the other way Boom, D got a third shot away and grabbed the dog by the collar. But too late the goats, the goats ran in front of the bulldozer and back into the pines. But wait one was left making a run for it on a different line and bang, a nanny went head over heels.
D's shot had netted 1 goat, so we were up to a massive total of 3

Never mind, we could still loop back for the other mob. 10 minutes later we were back in location. D had spotted them further down the slope and had decided to shoot from there (260m) while M spotted and I went and brought the wagon up . Boom, and a goat collapsed. As I walked off another shot rang out but nothing fell.

As it was getting dark, we left it at that but made the usual end of hunt assessment - How can you miss multiple animals at 60-70m but still head shoot a goat at over 200? There is only one answer - the BBT strikes again.
