Thanks Stug. That jerked a tear. What magnificent valour. The debt we owe them and others like them can never be repaid. We shall remember them.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Yep, my father is Dutch and was 8 when his town was liberated by the Canadians. Bagpipes still bring a tear to his eyes because of it.
Good to see the old guys still going. Utter respect. Mind you the accents were not quite as I was expecting. I'm half Scot, with a smattering of English, Irish, French and Dutch.

In 2006, I travelled to France to attend the national show for the Club d'Epagneul Breton (French Brittany) in Beauvais which is in the Picardie, an area north of Paris ... the show was held in a football field and stadium ... a shower of rain had me finding shelter up the back of the small stadium ... there was a space to sit offered to me by an elderly man with a beautiful young female black and white EB ... he asked where I was from and I told him New Zealand ... he was a boy when the New Zealanders liberated their town ... one of those magical moments you have the privilege to encounter in your life ...

Aside from the technical inaccuracies of that doco I enjoyed that.
I served with the Blackwatch and am still in contact with a couple of the fellas. Only it was the Scottish Unit.
One of the blokes I stay in touch with is now a gamekeeper or Ghillie and keeps pestering me to go over. I tease him that I can shoot a bigger red Stag than he has seen at least once a week.
