    A Bloody Good Day

Yesterday I call my mate and asked him if he wanted to go for a hunt in the morning, he said he was keen and what time will you pick me up? I said 5am.

This morning I arrived at my mates house at 4.50am and he was ready to go so off we set.

We arrived at the start of the property and proceeded to head up the steep terrain on the way to our hunting spot.

Here are a couple of pics I took on the way up

We arrived at our hunting spot around 7am and after a 15 min walk we sat down to glass, it wasn't long before I spotted 2 deer however it would have been mission imppssible so we turned them down.

A couple of pics of the terrain.

After a good deal of walking we could hear a lot of baring and bleeting so I asked my mate if he was keen on a lamb or 2, he replied yes I would be keen for some of that.

We sat and glassed then spotted a small mob of sheep and lambs grazing 300 meters away, my mate said have a crack so although not completly comfortable with my rest I gave it a go on a little lamb which was moving about but unfortunately it was a miss.

The good thing about it was they got spooked and wern't sure which direction to head, they started coming towards us although there was plenty of broom between us so they had plenty of cover.

I made my way down to a cluster of rocks then sat in wait, sure enough mothers and young scurried over a saddle but too quick to get a shot off.

I waited and then over to my left down below me one of the mothers appeared, I waited in anticipation and then a nice young lamb presented its self. With out hesitation I pulled the trigger and over rolled the lamb (yipee) I was stoked.

I started making my way down to the saddle and looked over to my left where I had shot the lamb when I saw a mother with her young following behind, I got down on one knee and touched off another shot BOOM over another lamb went.

At that point all hell broke loose, the adults seemed disorientated and confused as they seemed to lead there young back towards me and agian I let rip and yet another lamb went head over turkey.

Then another and finally another, all 5 young lambs lay flat on the deck except the last black one which ended up cartwheeling down the side of the hill and ended up with his head stuck in the v of a broom bush. Only 4 mothers but all 5 of their young had now succumbed to the wraith of the 7mm rem mag.

A couple more pics, one of the lambs and one of me with a loaded pack

After a quick field dressing excercise taking back legs and back straps it was time for the hard haul out then on the quad and back to the truck.
