I had been wanting to get out with the boy for a bunny hunt for some time but winter is so busy in our house.
Finally the evenings are getting lighter and I had access to a small orchard to hunt. The weather was good and I managed to get away from work early.
The boy got home from boxing and we did a quick recap on where to shoot an animal useing the dog as a poser both sitting up like a rabbit and hunkered down.
We arrived early and had to wait to meet the owner....while we waited I spied 3 of our quarry happily munching grass across the road on the neighbors place so I knew they at least should be out and about on our block,Caught up with the owner and he explained where to find a couple of jobs that needed looking at and left us to it.
Stalking along the ends of the rows and giving the binos a workout it wasnt long before I spyed a rabbit way down the end of a row, out with the rangefinder....130y.
We needed to at least half that distance so moved on two rows to stalk up closer then belly crawled back into the row. Yes! still there and a touch over 50y but onto us and hunkered down, got him set up behind the stumpy JW and when he was ready he sent a near silent cci sub on its way.
A perfect hit it jumped up then fell on its side and job done
A very happy and proud Dad I shook his hand and made a fuss of him.
A little later we spooked one off but managed to find him again and stalk into 50ish yards and he says "you can shoot it Dad Ive already got one"
So a tidy head shot on the little fella and we had enough for a feed and had about ran out of light so called it job done and got some MacDonalds for tea on the way home.
