Haven’t been out in a while so the wife gave me the ok to do a overnighter after nursing her after hip surgery. I packed my gear up and out the gate we go. Thinking the roar was over I opted for the long range magnum. Plenty of stags roaring and seen more stags than hinds on the first day, a lot of smaller stags roaming and covering a lot of ground. If I knew this I would of bought the 300BLK this trip. Seen a couple of stags having a play fight then carry on feeding again. Bloody busy in the hills and run into 4 lots of hunters and heard 20+ shots all over the place.
Been waiting 3 hours in the evening for this boy to show himself and he was roaring every 30 minutes or so, the cloud was low and clear every now and then.
The distance was 1025m he came out of the tree then beded down, the rifle already setup ready to rock. Boom solid hit and still had 2000 f-lb of energy left at than distance.
It started raining and clagged in with no wet weather gear so we went back to camp, it’s just before dark and spotted this stag at 440m chewing his cud. Lined him up for a back of head shot and exited out below the eye then 5 minutes later a small mob of fallow walk right past the stag I just nailed. I picked the biggest and dropped him.
A tasty fallow spiker
338 edge and a 1025m trophy
