    Bushpig takes its first deer

Took the little Kimber 7mm08 for a walk today as it had only taken a possum to date. My youngest son arrived back from the tongariro crossing but was still keen for a quick hunt. I had access to a forestry block so we headed off for a walk. Driving in the 4WD track we saw 3 Fallow but they were running fast. We parked up and cut up a hill which gave a vantage point over a nice clearing. Just near the top we spooked a big mob of turkeys and they flew off toward the hot spot. I was thinking that’s blown it so we sneaked onto a high point and spotted two deer 100m away below on the bush edge looking wary. I slid my day pack forward, put a 139 SST up the spout and my son crawled forward. After a couple of minutes they settled down and I said when the bigger light coloured one stands side on to shoot in the shoulder. He squeezed the trigger and whack the deer dropped. With the DPT suppressor the kick was bugger all and the other deer hung around trying to work out what just happened. We let it go this time. I still haven’t shot a deer with the Kimber but someone has.....

What a great little rifle, with that scope it’d be nice and lite. Have you weighed it?

Haven’t weighted it but it’s crazy light. I just wish Kimber made a 284 with a decent length mag box !!
