    A busy Month

After starting to go insane with the lack of fishing and hunting for what seemed forever (was nearly 6 months so close to forever) it was time to get some action in, Work had been nuts with work needing to be finished most weekends but things had slowed up a little so it was time to get the kids out. So this is a quick brief with pics of the busy month…. Was going to do a write up for each but I also need to get the boat going and the 338SAUM built ….

First it was a trip with Michael. I took up an offer of a place to hunt in an area not too far away
Nothing seen but a bit of sign around, unfortunately someone was doing target practice in the gully below first thing just as we made the area we wanted to glass  but a good walk around and I will be back to sort a few things at the base camp when time permits.

    Some pics of the trip

Then it was Roses turn and we had just taken delivery of a new Marlin 223 for her to use.
This trip had been on the go for a long long time and dates were set but work got in the way and things just turn to custard when you don’t want it to :/
But the plan was hatched to head down to Shank’s place with Munster to get Rose and Yuki a pig and I was to take some powders to try through the 280AI of Shanks to see if we can get the speed with less pressure to get more brass life… we sort of achieved that and on inspection the rifle appeared to have a fast twist…. May be perfect for heavier pills that the 162… Plan was now try that later.
This trip was on Rain hail or shine and we got most of that…not so much the shine part
The kids 223 bore sighted with a 4x scope I had sitting around, then a shot in the creek to confirm its POI and that’s all it got, a couple of shots from rose in to the creek free stabding and she liked it 

Pics from that trip (some have been posted already)

Smoked one of the legs up on the BBQ……. Yum!!

Then it was pet day for the kids Saturday so a weekend off hunting but I did get some load work done and sorted the bedding out on one rifle and changed the scope on the 223 to a 3-9 and sighted in on paper @100

Next weekend was a trip to Mikes to drop his 223 off that I had played with and go to the Sika show, Also get some meat for the freezer…Yummy Fallow
Kids got the task of dropping those, first it was Michael with my 243AI and then Rose with the 223… Rose did so well with the first one and Michaels one was a small deer….and with his one not being a head shot we decided to take one more….so Rose took another beauty of a head shot on another spiker for the Neighbour to say thanks for the use of the chiller from Mike (good spot for the pigs etc in the warmer months that are coming)

The following weekend I had a job to do on the pig paradise…. Two person job and as Craig had plenty on I bribed a mate with the possibility of scoring his first pig to come and give me a hand on the task…. It wasn’t hard to get him keen, Wife and kids were away so a boys weekend…… then I got a call from the wife, we will cross paths on the way home and Rose wants to go with you…..No Drama’s she is no burden and now I have an extra hand…. Not as many pics from this weekend as I managed to misplace the camera… found it packing up in Roses Jacket pocket :/
We did our task Saturday morning

    ……
So that left time for an evening hunt, Weather was 40-50 knot winds with rain blown in… Rose had a cold but I couldn’t convince her to stay at the house. We waited for the pigs to brave the weather and after a couple of hours one lone pig showed, Live capture time One very cold wet pig wet minus Mum..He needed to be in front of a fire…after the hunt

Rose was happy to not shoot a pig this trip after she got that… Wasn’t too long just before dark that another few showed (no piglets in this lot) after a quick stalk we were within 60 meters… setting up lined up, one in the scope safety off…Boom…Fark trigger had an issue, Oh well that gave them a fighting chance…off they run up the hill and around a tree and back in sight around 110 meters away running across heading for the next gully, with another round in the rifle I managed to drop one on the full run….Bugger stuffed it up for Kevin though.. Checked the trigger and the spring adjust screw had backed out giving next to no sear engagement at time with the trigger loose and the long grass was enough to set it off…..Bugger should have been an easy 2 pigs. Next day we decided to do another evening hunt to get a pig for Kevin…. Plan was hatched with spotters to let us know via radio if there was pigs ahead as we approached…and there was problem was there was sheep there too, two on the ridge were watching us so we stood still in the hope the would look away or just walk off….Nup the run down towards the pigs setting them off…bugger! Oh well we will wait for them to show….and some did just before Dark… A pig for Kevin sorted
Quick tea the Girls had cooked pack the gear up and set sail for home …. 2am home, Big weekend

    Back at the work shop..

Nice work Dave. Even if you did poach my pigs
Getting older is compulsory, growing up is entirely optional.

At least I got some Ouch....... you never know which spot to look over... Sometimes its the spot you aren't at that they come out

It is a great place to go and get away pigs or not and I was pleased to be able to help sort things on the farm both trips....even if it meant getting drenched in horozontal rain.... Not to the bone thanks to the Army surplus goretex

Next month with have to include fishing somewhere...just got to get the boat going again.
