Chamois down
After gaining some local Intel I took the Ute up into the Kopuwai. Parking up after a long off-road drive I had a bit of a glass and then made a plan. I was going to drop into the valley cross the creek and go up the other side and make my way to a head basin.
The first part went to plan but as I climbed towards some bluffs something moved, it was about 4pm. I immediately stopped and sank to my knees in time to see a chamois making off. Hearing a whistle I looked up to see 2 more watching me. I stayed still until they lost interest.
I slowly followed by getting into a gully out of sight, we played tag for the next hour and a half finally getting above them which gave me a safe shooting angle.
I was able to set up the .308 on a flat rock which I could lay down on. Lining up on a shoulder I pulled the trigger, the chamois ran out of sight and I'm thinking miss, I bloody well missed so I lined up on another who hadn't moved this time I heard a solid thump and it dived head first off the bluff.
I made my way over there and I didn't miss the first shot it was there dead but out of sight, the 165g nosler ballistic tip had made a big hole so I couldn't recover as much meat as hoped. I then looked for the bigger one I could see it but no way could I get to it.
Made my way back to the Ute by 8pm happy but tired. Oh and I could see my Ute from the shooting rock.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...068d28269f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...58ce3e2313.jpg

Yep first and second chamois, there will be a video at some point but I don't film the actual shooting part.

Well done, lots of country up there. Stumbled onto a couple of goldminers down in the Waikaia a few years back. They were doin ok too.
Back in the day there always used to be a few deer in Gorge creek but I spose like everywhere these days, there's a "few deer" everywhere.

You will be heading through Ashburton then....I happen to know of a great fella ,who will boil out chammy skull and have it looking super duper awesome in no time at all. You should make time to visit him,his good lady makes a mean coffee too.photo of you two lads side by side will be good.
