Reading this makes me feel inadequate in some weird way. Maybe because in 25 years of hunting I've never shot more than one deer in a day, maybe it's that Bruce is about 25 years older than me and recovering from illness and still packs more into a day than I think I could manage.

Anyway well done, excellent shooting with the 223, your proficiency is something to be admired.

Ive just woken. 10.30 am. Dropped off at 9pm last night Im very fortunate that Im an ex farmer so have some good contacts for access. The owners especially like the meat being used for the needy so they encourage me. And they like the pest reduction. There are a lot of deer on these Wairarapa properties.

Can I politely suggest that next time you're recovering from illness, you take only one, max of two rounds with you......

Well done. Got to admire continuing to get in amongst it, come rain hail or shine.

Gotta just keep going, or the body will finally cry uncle and thats that.

Wairarapa is just going to get worse, with all that easy hill country going into Pines. A mate sent me a video last month of a mob of 50 running across a river valley flat, having been rarked up by a farmer wanting to retain what little grass he has, for his Angus. The farms either side have gone the 'safari hunt' way and think those numbers are just great

Good stuff as always! I know a few others have said it but i’d definitely be cautious about doing too much too soon if you don’t feel 100 percent. I had a pretty rough week when I got it and three weeks later I still wasn’t right but went hunting anyway. Long story short it set off a relapse and I went through another horrible week, almost ending up in hospital, followed by a good month plus of the body trying to feel right again. Sounds like you are kicking along well though!

Well done especially coming off that dreaded virus. You sure do a great job supplying meat to the needy just be sure you don’t bust a boiler doing so. 5 deer for 6 shots is not to shabby either gotta love the wee 223.

Boned everything out on Sunday. 51 kg of boned out meat delivered for the charity. That's about $1,500 worth of meat retail. It costs the charity about $75 to have it diced and/or minced by the butcher it goes through.

I was fine for 2 weeks after that hunt but still a bit jaded from the bug. But since Christmas Ive been knocked off my feet. Another overnighter on the 27th probably didn't help. Eye infections, chest, sinus, throat. 2 courses of antibiotics. Dr says too much too soon after covid. Wife has me on a very short leash at present. Gotta be right in a coupe of days 'cos Im baby sitting a station in the Wairarapa next week.
