    Connor and I go hunting.

Well when we got up this morning the weather wasn't that great. In fact it was blowing a thousand bastards to be exact. But I had promised Connor that I would take him hunting this weekend and Saturday was a write off so today it had to be.
We looked around the farm for an hour or two in all the little places out of the wind but only saw about 8 and they were all hinds with fawns. We moved to another part of the property to try our luck. We just came over the brow of ridge when a group immediately stood out. Five tasty Fallow. 2 hinds, 2 fawns and just what we were after 1 fat spiker. The ginger coats like a beacon on the green grass. They were just to the right of Connor's hand in the picture below. Under the manuka.

I have recently brought a range finder and what a great toy. It said they were 189 yards away, no guess work!. Now previously I would have thought "Hey that's bloody far, aim at the big bit". Now recently I had a load developed by a guy in Ashurst using 130gn Speer's. Now he said it was pretty accurate and it was sighted in for 200 yards. So down I lay, aimed at the neck and fired away! What do you know, it fell over! One dead spiker.

Now the previous projectiles I had used were Barnes. they were good, but expensive. So I thought I would try old fashioned projectiles again. I asked the spiker if he noticed the difference, but he didn't answer.

    The end result.

    His mates leaving the scene.

All in all a good day and Connor learnt a bit about gutting a deer. He wasn't keen on carrying it though!

    Till next time....................
