    Evening wander

The kids wanted to go for a walk Tuesday afternoon to see if we could find an animal, goat or deer. My oldest was quite keen to shoot another goat. We left home and got to the car park an hour and half later. The excitement levels were quite high, my two boys 8 and 10 had were fizzing. We spotted a few goats some were out of range but most were in some nasty county not fit for kids.
About an hour later we were close to a spot I wanted to check for a deer so I stayed behind the ridge to remind the boys of the importance of being quiet whilst cresting ridges. My wife snuck over first and I could see from her change in body language she had spotted something. We unloaded the gear and snuck over, sure enough a nice yearling hind was feeding completely unaware of us. We had the wind in our favor and the boy's were quiet. Oliver was really keen to have a shot and so was my wife, but due to the steep angle of shot and unfavorable rest it was decided that I take it.
I ranged here at 173 mts, I settled the cross just behind her shoulder and the little 55gr fmj (223) did the rest. She ran 5 mtrs before going belly up. Great result, kids got to see a live deer in the wild and be there for the kill and butcher session. Was a steep little face to get down, we started to look around as she fell in a heap of hebes, my 8yr old found here before me. I was standing on a rock looking around 'here it is dada' sure enough about 5mtrs from me is a head poking out. Perfect. Boys learnt about the importance of taking a bearing before heading off. We got the boys into bed about 11pm, completely shattered.
Excuse the photo, due to the steep nature we had no chance to position deer, so unfortunately the kids were looking into the sun. We shot the deer at 645pm.
