Thread: Fathers Day for Father and Son to Remember

So after a false start a few weeks earlier due to the weather and not wanting to risk the young fullahs safety we finally got round to rescheduling another chance to go for a wonder, just so happened to be Fathers day too.

My mate had been wanting to get his son onto his first animal for a while and after nothing seen after long walks in the bush the young mans enthusiasm had started to waiver.

After all my hyping up of this area with all the goats that get spotted/shot and nothing but a small mob of 6 seen in 4 hours and many K's covered both the boy and my confidence was starting to take a hit so we decided a power nap was in order. There's few better places to sleep but on the top of a steep hill facing across a beautiful valley and after one of the best sleeps I have had in a long time it was back into the endless walking with nothing more seen.

Enter Barefoot to the rescue, the good bastard that he is picked up us and drove us around to some of his more productive spots and with his keen eyes picked out a mob for the little man to have a crack at. With a little bit of cheating with me on the opposite hillside guiding them by radio they managed to sneak down above the mob, but with the steep terrain upon drawing, the nanny gave away the game and the large billy that had been targeted got wise and shot off down the hill. This turned out to be a blessing as through the binos I saw him at full draw turn to his left and take aim at another billy that I hadn't spotted that presented a much better shot, he kept his cool and let rip the arrow. An amazing sight to see as the fletchers appeared on the other side of the goat with nothing but a small red dot visible. A few steps taken and down he went, a perfect shot straight through the heart.

After a long time of watching them make an easy job look way harder than it should have been they had the long hard slog back up the hill (hence why I volunteered to be spotter), back to the top just before the shadows caught up with them and then that good dude Barefoot drove our tired legs back to my truck.

It will take a long time for the smile to disappear from this young man and the fire has been stoked for many more, and hopefully fruitful, walks through the bush. Also made for a great fathers day for my mate.
