Really enjoyed that hunting report, the real deal. Just to think those old timers were doing this day in day out for months on end.

Thanks for taking the time to share this tale with us.

We have some awesome mountainous country here in the SI with views to die for, but that NI bush country as pictured is truly appealing me. I'm a bit envious of what you have up there, but I guess you lot say the same about us mainlanders. Bloody lucky aren't we, to have this at our leisure.
    Thanks for posting.

Impressive distance walked on that mission. Wondered if you were going to head back to poronui or get picked up elsewhere.

I wish I had been picked up, I would have loved to spend another couple of days in there. And crikey that walk through Poronui is boring.

An absolute stunning walk and great country covered... I would have expected you to have bumped into more animals walking down from the shelter into the Oamaru.

Thanks for writing that up, really cheered me up as here in the UK we are going in full lock down!
Or shooting season is well and truly toast. So it good to read about it if you can’t do it ah!
Looking back I was so lucky to make Stewart Island back in 19
Thanks again when normal returns I must have a good stroll through there it sounds brilliant. +1 I like the sound of those shelters!

Sure did @Micky Duck , shoulders were toast so got back legs , backsteaks and an eye fillet in his pack. Fed the other eye fillet and some neck meat etc to the dog because he deserved it.
I worry for the state of the rest of the deer in there if they are all in that kind of condition.

I think I would have if the wind had been better for us, I must have come across at least a dozen different beds that looked to have been vacated in a hurry.

    Hi,
I just come back from a five days mission in the same area where I went with a friend.
Plenty of skinny deer about. I shot a young hind and got 3kg of meat all up (2 backsteaks and all the meat of the rear legs).
Her stomach was full but the ground is literally cleaned up and they don't have that much good nutrient to eat.
We stayed two nights at the same bivy on the saddle before moving on. We need more of those bivys around to get people going into the remote areas and shoot those deer.
