So had the option of work or day off, decided to take the other half for a walk as she had been wanting to go for a while to try her new tikka 243 but hadnt had the chance (only down the range). Got a few things together this morning and we headed out. About 20mins into it we were walking up a bush edge (private land) and i noticed a few sheep running around, popped my head over the rest of the rise and there was a young fallow hind (maybe 2 yr old) running around amoungst them. Perfect for a first deer i thought to myself.
It was only 75m away and was heading straight down towards us, put a round in the rifle for her and put her in front of me to get ready. It came down within 3m but on a rise which didnt present a good shot. It knew we were there after that and trotted 25m down below us. "Meh!" That pulled her up....BANG! No flinch or jump or anything just took off, as this was the missus first ever hunt and first ever animal she was going to shoot i thought she had just clean missed as she has never killed an animal and thought she mighta had the shakes. Went down to where abouts we thought it was and nothing, bugger. Carried on 100m up the hill looking for another. Stopped and talked to her about how confident she was with the shot, "it was definately on its shoulder or body atleast" Are you sure? Yep yep she reckons. So went back down after 5mins of looking around i found some blood, beauty! 'Blood over here' had her running over my way. Tracked its blood for 50m and it was getting heavier. Then there it was topped over. Wicked! She was wrapped! I was impressed as it was quite a rushed moment from seeing deer to the shot which was quite an awkard position for shooting aswell. Carried it all the way back too! Happy wife happy life haha
