    First Deer For my Boy

Over the past few weeks I've been rather busy trying to paint the house.
Decided that the boys better go away for a weekend, leave the girls behind and and do some manly things involving guns and fishing rods. So quick load of the truck with fishing gear and rifles and off we go.
Headed to the canals to see if we could tempt some salmon or trout to exit the water.
Temperature was scorching!! While fishing we saw a big fire develop in grassland over the way a bit. Got to watch a few choppers fly over dumping water on it.
Didn't manage to land any fish in the places we tried. But the boy had fun.

Then we thought we better get to our hunting spot and set up camp.
Was about 23:30 when we finally got to our camp site. Temp was still 34!
The drive in was a suicide mission for 34 rabbits and 5 hares. All sent to church by my mighty Terrano.
Quick set up, and into the sleeping bags. Didn't take long to drop off!

At first light, well ok not quite, we had a wee wander to see if any pesky wallaby's were wanting to meet their maker.
Saw a few but they had seen us much earlier and were motoring away, so no chance of the boy taking his first roo this time.
Then I spotted a fallow in the dry river bed about 300y up from us.
So a quiet stalk up to a good position about 85-90y away, and I set up the rifle for my boy to use.
Got him into position and waited for the right time. The spiker moved forward slightly and gave a much better target so I gave the OK to fire.
    BANG!! Flop!
1 round, base of neck dropped it on the spot.
    High fives all round!

Then we had a mission to get down to where it was trying to get through the scrub. I then cocked up trying to locate it but my boy put me straight. He knew where it was. lol
After a quick butchering, we loaded up the packs with all the meat we could carry and then I loaded the legs over my shoulders.
Then came the slow walk out back to the truck where we had cold "beers" (ginger) waiting in a chilly bin. Those "beers" went down very well.

We have more adventures planned in the near future
