A first for my boy
Just been up North with the family. We have some family land on the coast at a place called Tauranga Bay. I try and get up there a couple of times a year for a week at a time. Its a great spot with good fishing and hunting (pigs and small game)

We always try to do a bit of both.
This time round I took my new rig a Howa mini in 223. It shoots well and Oliver my son shoots it well too. When we sighted it in his group was better than mine.:D
Anyway we took it for a walk on the cousins farm early one evening and spied a lone pig mooching around on the bush edge. It wasnt aware of us and we managed to get into shooting position. Oliver had smacked over a few hares the day before so I was confident he would be up to the task. I got Olly in beside me and he lind it up. It was facing away from us so we had to wait for a while but eventually it turned side on and presented a shot. I told him to aim for the shoulder and fire when was ready. I heard the thump of a good hit and the pig squealed and rolled over. By the time we got to it it was dead.
Stoked.

It was a nice young boar maybe 60 pounds. A good eating size.
I gutted it and Oliver even helped out with the carry. I was really impressed with his effort on the way out as it was a bit of a steep grunt back to the truck.

It was a proud Dad and Son moment thats for sure and hopefully the first of many. Next on the agenda will be a deer.
