    First overnighter

Went for our first overnighter with my 4 year old son, along with a mate and his 4 year old daughter. Was a nice cruisey hunt - the focus being on making it an enjoyable time for the two youngsters, to make them keen to come out on future adventures. They had a great time over the campfire, exploring the bush, seeing some goats, and even a quick rigged up swing.

Ended up getting a few goats, a nice easy game to get - given our 4 year olds weren't the best at staying quiet or still while hunting (definitely something to work on). That gave us the opportunity to show the kids the process of breaking down the animal into the usable cuts and discarding the offal etc. Was encouraging that they were involved and quite interested too.

Also had the opportunity to use my new to me 25-06, which had some great terminal ballistic results. Quite impressed by how quickly it dropped the animals with the Hornady 117gr SP, while being a very pleasant calibre to shoot.

Keen to take the kids out again in the near future, and hopefully get a deer with them next time!

Haha yes they were MD - apologies for the edits, just keeping a low ish online profile for the kids sake. Was a great time had by all.

See that fence coming down the hill against the bush in the background (to the right of the cattle). I put it up.
Haha well it really is around your backyard. It's a bushblock plentiful for goats, the deer are fewer and further between though. Some farmers who are generous with their access though - acquaintances of my hunting mate.

That just proves you are a thoughtful father, just wish more were like that as its important to not publish your kids lives online.

Thanks again for the gift of it! It is getting frequently used, and have had great results with it so far.

Great trip for the young ones, you can’t introduce them to the outdoors to young, there’s lots to do for them and you.

Well done to the Dads for taking the time to show your kids all about hunting and the bush. Parenting done right. And well done to the kids for getting out there and enjoying it. Thank you JoelA
