    First pig in years......

Went out today looking for goats and came back with a nice eating wild pig! The idea was to hunt a couple of clearings to pick up 2 or 3 goats for mince. I hunted and waited by the clearings all afternoon but absolutely zilch. Well that's not quite true; as when I hopped out of the car there were 2 goats staring at me through the roadside scrub about 8-metres away. But.... Not allowed to shoot on the road etc so I let them go.....

So I decided to try another gully a few kms along hoping there maybe one or two goats out. The gully gets hammered hard by pig hunters and of course they often shoot goats for pig bait; but there are still often some about.

Anyway; I'd walked about 1/2 a km down the gully; it was about 4.30 pm and the gully was getting a bit shadowy with low sun. About 50-metres away I saw a black log that looked just like a pig facing in my direction in the foot high grass. Anyway sure enough it raised and lowered its head a few times and I could 100% guarantee it was a pig. It dropped like a hot spud with a 55gr Buffalo River in the swede! It was a bloody nice eater that dressed out at about 25kg (head on)

The funny thing is that I had a feeling there were pigs about. Why I don't know. And about a minute before seeing it I was thinking about how many big boars that pig hunters (with dogs) have been after for years get nailed by a goat hunter tip toeing along quietly....

Next minute...... Very strange...... To say I'm stoked is an understatement; it's the first pig I've shot for soooooo long....
