Well done mate, it takes a bit of courage for someone to publicly talk about their less than perfect experiences. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and in this case wiser. As has already been said, an animal gutted and hung in a tree will be perfectly fine the next day, better to walk back for that and perhaps not be able to find than some of your hard earned gear.
