I was in a pretty similar spot last week, missed a hind last weekend that got me a bit down in the dumps and still without meat. With the weather looking pretty average for this weekend i made a plan to head up river to a spot thats given up the goods many times over, got up there way too late, wind was swirling, and a group of deer were onto me well before i was onto them. Bugger. Carried on up stream to another face i like to wait on, decided id give it an hour, 20mins later a stag is spotted bolting across the face through the scrub after presumably winding me, got a quick range on him, 210m, no time to consult strelok, gave him 2MOA of dial on the vx5, as he stopped, quarting away i sent a 162amax his way, the fiesty little redhead did its job perfectly, in the crease, stag dropped on the spot, rolled half way to the river and eased up in a flax bush. After a late start and poor winds i was pretty happy to be carting out a tonne of meat, the animals are really starting to put on good condition too in the lower country where the spring growth has shot away. Get amongst it!
