    Getting the numbers down...pic heavy

Brian and I were asked to help knock some numbers back on a property that we hunt. 5 or 6 years ago the population was predominately Reds but slowly and surely the Fallow have been taking over. To the point where they are becoming a problem. I wont say how many - not big mobs - but enough to be affecting grass growth on a high production hill country farm.

We targeted doe's and a spikers and took the big guns (me 300saum and 168 grn NBT and Brian 300WM and 150 grn Federal Fusions).

The first evening I shot a Red hind and fallow spiker with a rifle mounted torch at about 100 -200 yds and we saw about 15-20 deer. We stayed the night at the hut and were up early next morning to hunt a different block with higher numbers. Here we shot 2 each - 3 doe's and a spiker. So 6 altogether. Ranges 50 yards to 300. We could have shot many more but the outlet I have for the meat (a charity) can only take so much at a time. So we will keep at it for a little while and it wont take too long to get the numbers back a bit. The farmer really appreciates us doing it.

Here's pics that sort of tell the story...

Good to see the meat going to the less fortunate than us.

Great effort Tahr and Brian and awesome that you are putting the meat to good use. Carrying them out beats going to the gym to keep the bone density up aye...

This is a perfect example of people working together for a common good goal.

    Cheers FBD

What's the average condition of the deer like you take from there? Has it changed much over time?

Haven't noticed so much their condition but the heads have definitely deteriorated.

At one stage he did make a very droll comment about me taking a lot of photos.
