    The Giltrap's invade the Wairarapa

Well at the beginning of the week the weather report for the weekend was not looking to flash, but on Wednesday Jim Hickey changed his mind, so a quick call to the farmer and me and Connor (9) decided to head to the Wairarapa to get summer summer venison.

Saturday turned out to be an absolute scorcher, but we had made the trek from Wanganui so headed out anyway. Needless to say all the deer were hiding from the sun. Plus it had been a full moon so most of the deer would have been feeding at night anyway.

Eventually though the day wore on and the deer started to pop out.

A spiker soon joined the young hind and lay down to chew his cud. He was 300 yards away which is easy work for the .284.

After the shot a second spiker came out to see what the fuss was about...........

So it was a good end to a great day on the hill with my son. i just hope he takes up hunting so he can take me out when I'm old!!!

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Mate awesome, good times for the young fella, looked like he didn't even have to do a carry. How good is that, he's got minions and he's only 9. Great camera work.
