    A Good Hard Hunt

I have been wanting to check this spot out for a while now, about the middle of the week I gave my boy a call and asked him if he wanted to come out with the old man for a hunt.

He said he had nothing on so he was keen, he asked what time we would be leaving so I told him 5am he replied 6 so I said ok.

This morning we headed out in the Toyota hilux with a bit of Berlin playing on the CD, my boy had a bit of a laugh at my choice of music as we made steady progress towards the hunting spot.

We arrived at the spot and started heading over a few hills, we got to a likely looking spot so we stopped to take a break and a look around. It wasn't long before my boy said I see about 4, I took a look and sure enough there were 4 fallow deer so I said since you spotted them you get first shot then after that it's all on.

My son lined one up and dropped it on the spot, soon after he fired I pulled the trigger and over my one went beauty! not even 7am and there are 2 on the deck.

We decided not to shoot any more as it was going to be a hard carry out, so as he is younger and I am now wiser he carried out the bigger one and I took the wee one.

Back to the truck by 11am and a real sense of achievement and enjoyment with my son, I decided to try my first hand load at a target 100 meters using the same recipe I am using now but with all my own reloading gear and it was bang on so that made me happy as well.

A great day all round, hung the deer under the house, put the riffles away and had a cold beer to celebrate.

I knew we had a big up hill climb so I didn't offer I just picked up the wee one and set off, I felt a bit guilty but it will save him going to the gym for a day or 2

A nice easy hunt and good rewards at the end of it, nice to have a young deer packer for the hard work. Should be good meat , enjoy it.
