Had a good start to last January with a stag not long into the new year.
Had a similar start to this year.
Hope this year continues in a similar vein as the last...

Nice one. Pedicle damage? Seems lower to the skull on that side but might be photo angle

Hmm Maybe. Didnt look too close. Was almost dark when I shot it so was more concerned with getting the meat and when I went back a couple days later to get the photo the fly's were a bit thick to hang round. Was in a group of 5 stags and was thus culled for his short comings.
well done

Normally people say its a pity to shoot a stag in velvet because it may have been a trophy. Not so in that case! I would like to have seen that last stag in hard antler, it would have been really wierd.
1st poor bugger didnt have a chance - hes buried up to his neck in the ground.
Would have been a nice head when hard - tasty all the same
Na the first one was poor too. Shot on the south coast in Fiordland. Just the angle of the camera I'd say, that and the fact he is buried up to his chin...
Wow, only a mother could love that 2nd one alright. Good start all the same, maybe it continue long beyond the roar
Nice work mate, it definitely needed to be taken out of the breeding stock thats for sure.
Looks as though thats a young velveting stag thats escaped beefore his second cut.
Great start to the year Wildman, well done mate
While I might not be as good as I once was, Im as good once as I ever was!
