Thanks for the comments, we were very lucky with all three as the distance from roads was about 200 yds on the two and the spiker may have been 300 yds.
Have used the 3006 a lot over the years back when we sold deer the weapon of choice was a Browning BAR which was accurate, fast and reliable but a bit heavy, after selling all my BAR's I went back to bolt action and magnum calibers but always had a 3006 in the cabinet. So recently I upgraded to the Ruger and like it a lot as it's only 71/2 pound all up so nice to carry and it packs a punch.
Personally I like them better than 308 as they work well with the 180 gr bullets which gives them there punch. Still like me magnums though!!
