Gumboot guide and a Poacher

@mucko his son and muckos Dad were heading up the track to the top of the Ruahine Range with that gumboot guide @BRADS when I sent a text I'm on my way.

Brads dropped his clients off on the steep track to meet the only gumboot hunter at the road edge.

We barelled up the track with rifles on the tray.

Wasn't long before the sheep shagger AKA @BRADS spotted one for his clients.

Brads set Mucko's Dad up for the shot and we waited for the kill at 480yrd i think gumboot guide said

Re grouped at bike for water and a bite before going over the next ridge.

We cursed at the bastard!! And Muckos dad took the can off the rifle to make it louder and hit the target bang on.

Now we just have to remove the vehichle.

Dundee I am a bit worried when reading that you meant that Mucko's old man shot the poacher and now you lot are removing the poachers vehicle to get rid of the evidence. Mucko looks a bit serious so I may well be right. Tell Brad's that if he is going to get his customers to shoot over that distance with their hunting rifles he needs to get them to prove zero at a hundy before he lets them line up on an animal.

Oh and are you going grey Mucko or was it snowing down there? Ha ha ha ha.

Yes Rushy from now on I will.
I was told the rig was capable of the shot and take people's word for it.
That range with a deer way out in the open, no wind, and happily feeding should be easy meat for a 300 win mag, if any of those things didn't line up then I wouldn't of allowed the shot to be taken.
In the 2 months I've been doing it I've found most people can't shoot as well as they think they can.
And some can shoot steel 100% and still not hit a deer, so there's no easy fix.

Closing the gap on this one wasn't possible, otherwise that's always the plan, One of the group had a heart condition and couldn't walk I was forced to bike hunt from a ridge top, limiting my options.

@Rushy the rifle was good for it, maybe the excitement of the shoot affected the shooter. i have seen the zero of the rifle. i could of backed up the shooter but didn't feel i could be effective at that range, we reconfirmed the rifle @550yrds and confirmed the rifle was good enough. @BRADS does a bloody good job and provides excellent service we were hoping to get my 7yo his first animal but that was spoilt by a fence jumper.

So what's with the removing of a vehicle then? Me no understandy

It was tongue in cheek. I know the spot and understand that it would have been difficult (I wasn't the poacher though :) )

@Tahr @BRADS was doing ranging excise with us which was awesome to see. looking at a spot in steep contour really affects range perception without out doing it it would've been easy ranging something closer then it was.
