Finally got my little sister out after her first deer yesterday after work. After a 30 min walk in we spied a young stag feeding about 100 yards away. It was not an easy shot but she nailed it. He dropped at the shot but promptly stood up and walked off. Having seen the shot, he had been hit hard so we gave him 10 minutes before heading over to him. We found the little clearing where he had been and put Wolf on the trail and he took us straight to him about 30m away. He had been hit in the heart which in my experience often causes them to run a small distance.
One happy sister!
He also had a handle bar as one antler so was better off in the pot than breeding. I assume this is a genetic trait and not caused by damage?
She carried the back legs whole all the way back to truck and didn’t complain once!
Two tired individuals.
